There are so many supplements on the market but it is imperative to research them to ensure you are consuming the ‘right’ supplements that are clean and backed by leading science to feed and fuel your body. ForeverHer tracked down an expert on this topic; Melanie Wasilewski, Director of Retail Sales North America for Lumity Life, headquartered in Atlanta, GA.
FH: Why are supplements so vital to use as part of an anti-aging regimen?
MW: As we age, our body stops functioning as efficiently as it used to, every day the body is also exposed to cumulative internal and external demands that leave it stressed and depleted of key nutrients. We have so many options of things we can do topically to help our skin as it ages, but if you are healthy on the inside, it shows on the outside!
FH: What should you look for when researching and choosing the best supplement?
MW: Definitely a soft gel form as that is the best way for the nutrients to be absorbed and easily digested. A tablet or a capsule with dry powder could just pass through your system and you wouldn’t be getting the nutrients! Also look for supplements without any fillers. And, don’t take super high amounts of any one nutrient as your body probably doesn’t need it. More isn’t always better!
FH: The founder of Lumity, Sara Palmer Hussey, PhD. has done some ground-breaking research on counteracting 9 essential causes of aging. Can you share some highlights on the 9 causes of aging?
MW: Sara’s revolutionary research is that there are really 9 things happening in all of our bodies as we age. For the longest time, experts have always said that Free radicals are the primary aging trigger and they use anti-oxidants to treat that. By only addressing the free radicals, one is missing out on the opportunity to really help to counteract all aging processes from within. Some of 9 causes are ones you have probably heard of like, inflammation, and hormonal decline. One of the other more newly researched cause is telomere shortening.
FH: Do you have advice on what women can do to look out for these signs and begin preventive measures?
MW: Aging really takes its toll and shows up in many ways. If you notice you are not sleeping like you once were, or if you just don’t feel as good that is a sign that mother nature has started to send you into the decline! Yikes! It is never too early to start taking care of yourself from the inside out. Starting in your 20’s is not to early.
FH: Melanie, you are a busy working mom of two that has seemed to master the act of aging beautifully and staying forever young. What are you favorite go-to products in your bag of tricks and how do you integrate them into your regimen?
MW: You are so sweet to say that and I could say the same thing back to you! My skin is normally dry, so I like using a vitamin C serum in the morning on my face. Revision Skincare makes a good one that I like. I also try and drink plenty of water every day! I carry around my swell bottle everywhere that I go so that it is always cold. And, of course my Lumity every day and night…. it has really changed how I feel throughout the day, which in turn makes me look fresh.
